Creating the Future: Technology, Sustainability and Young Talent

Compared to other European countries, Italy faces a significant delay in STEM education. This gap translates into difficulties in finding qualified personnel and poses a challenge to the country’s future. Bridging this gap and inspiring the next generation requires innovative and engaging pathways that combine technology, creativity, and environmental awareness.

Some courses held to date:

  • orientation courses in primary and secondary schools I and II grade
  • company courses
  • online courses

VR for Education | Trainers

Training courses on the use of Meta devices for teaching and training.

Target: teachers and trainers.

The course is structured in several phases, divided by thematic areas, with a strong focus on the “learn by doing” method. Each training phase ends with a specifically dedicated educational and practical activity. The initial phases delve into the historical context, the virtual reality market, and then move on to educational and professional advantages.

VR for Education | Students & STEM

Training courses within the Girls Code it Better program through Officina Futuro Fondazione W Group. These programs aim to involve a growing number of girls in STEM study paths, helping to reduce the gender gap in the world of work.

Target: primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary school students.

The course is divided into several phases, aimed at developing a specific theme and the design development of a product through dedicated tools, with a focus on STEM areas, particularly on virtual and augmented reality. Each training phase follows a well-defined standardized method, which allows students to put into play various skills, including analysis skills, critical thinking, creativity, and finally, the development of technical skills related to the tool.

3D Game Art | Video Games

Training courses for video game development, designed to introduce students to the fundamental pipeline of the development process.

Target: lower secondary and upper secondary school students.

The course is structured in several phases, each focused on the development of a specific theme and the design of a video game. Students will explore various areas, including market analysis, development environments, industry professions, practical implementation, problem-solving, and publication of a demo on dedicated platforms.

Courses on interactive storytelling tailored at kids – SYB/GCIB: in the Stem Your Brain/Girls Code It Better courses, classes of kids are guided through the creation of a small narrative video game. In the course, children learn how to use the open-source tools Twine and Bitsy to prototype short interactive stories. The themes that the classes dealt with include promoting their school and city, sport activities, and finding solutions to global warming through video game creative tools.

Academic courses and practice modules for interactive writing (AIV – Accademia Italiana Videogiochi, Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore): narrative design courses tailored at university-grade students, featuring narratology theories as well as practise modules.

Storytelling and narrative design short workshops (PAV, Game Ground, Festival dell’Innovazione): masterclasses for different audiences providing an introduction to interactive storytelling, practical exercises to start developing a narrative prototype, and gaining a better consciousness of game and narrative design tools.

Learning by Doing: Accessible Digital Creativity

We have guided groups of primary school children (ages 8 to 10) in learning how to develop a video game, create tailored narratives, and design 2D/3D assets. These 20-hour extracurricular courses were made possible thanks to our collaboration with Girls Code It Better for the “STEM Your Brain” project.

With the rise of increasingly accessible online software, anyone can learn to program and develop video games and applications. In this course, young participants gained hands-on experience by exploring key phases of video game development, including:

  • Concept and Idea: Defining the theme and game dynamics
  • Documentation: Creating a game design document
  • Graphics: Designing visual assets with Pixlr
  • Coding: Implementing the game using Construct3

This experience allowed children to combine creativity and technology, developing new digital skills and enhancing their environmental awareness.

🎯 Educational Benefits of the Project:

  • Raising awareness about ocean protection
  • Promoting critical thinking and problem-solving
  • Learning digital programs from an early age, transitioning from paper-based materials
  • Understanding PEGI ratings: learning while having fun with family involvement.
